Event for Diversity and Inclusion Week Dec2019

Event for Diversity and Inclusion Week

It has been the first time we realize such an event like this one and we have been so fortunate to be able to share it in Barcelona with our workmates.

What did we do? Our fantastic coworkers from Valencia prepared an Escape Room game so that people were aware of the difficulty and inconvenience they could find being deaf. In this way, everybody could learn and understand the features of this incapacity. We have carried it out in Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona and fortunately, in Barcelona, we had high participation.

Participants had to pass tests to achieve a key to unlock the lock of the next clue. They had 30 minutes to solve 6 tests in a team and they were not able neither to hear (they had earplugs in their ears) or to speak between them. They had to communicate in any way they could.

Trying to solve each of the tests, participants were able to learn more the problems that people with deafness encounter from first hand and how to be able to call their attention and establish communication.

We were so fortunate having with us Rafael Romanillos, who was born deaf, who was the keys’ guardian in the game and lead us through the game helping participants and teaching them ways to communicate with a deaf person. He showed us as well the skills he has developed because for instance, despite his incapacity he is able to speak so good or to text messages rapidly and the best of all it's he knows "to listen" to people and he is always in a good mood.

It has been a pleasure and pride to have participated in the organization of this spectacular event with some exemplary colleagues from whom we have to learn so much. It has been great to see how fellow participants and we have learned a great lesson.

Personally, I think these kinds of events are exceptional not only for learning about a topic and have a fun time but also to demonstrate the cooperation with other people even when is the first time you see them. Moreover, at the same time, everybody is widening their acquaintance network.

Thanks to the team leader of D&I Labrado Antolin, M. Isabel, thanks to my teammates Shona Partridge and Nuria Lucas and thanks for coming and joining us in this event Rafael Romanillos Padilla, Carlos Pagan Moreno and Eva Calatayud Mizrahi: without all of you it would not have been such an incredible experience.
