Mindfulness at work
Mindfulness
at work
Resilience and the ability to cope with
difficult situations is fundamental to well-being. During stressful periods,
people with high levels of resilience will be able to persevere and remain
engaged and productive. Mindfulness at work can reinforce this resilience by equipping people with the ability to understand their emotions,
their level of stress and their ability to influence them.
How to practice mindfulness at work?
The most common ways of practising
mindfulness at work are:
1. Webinars
Webinars are run by specialists but
offer the flexibility of virtual participation. These programmes can be more
cost-effective, scalable to different locations and can also provide a greater
sense of confidentiality.
2. Self-study
Digital programmes can provide
greater autonomy for training in mindfulness techniques. These programmes can
be tailor-made or delivered according to a specific schedule. The benefits of
this learning methodology are great flexibility and low cost. However, it can
generate a lack of commitment and lasting effectiveness.
Mindfulness at work offers a range
of benefits from health to improved
relationships at work. To have a lasting impact the participation and
support of the leadership are required.
I strongly encourage you to start
putting the art of mindfulness into practice. Be patient and do not stress out every time your thoughts wander
during a session.
The mindfulness is very interesting
because besides having many benefits it makes visible the bubbling character of
the mind.
For example, when you're trying to
concentrate on your breathing for meditation, you notice that your mind starts
to think about your primary school teacher, your grandmother's lentils or a dog
that I saw two days ago peeing in the street. The mind goes back and forth, and
you simply observe it, as if you were another mind observing your mind.
Your thoughts never stop: but many
times we need to find an activity such as Tetris or meditation, which leads us
to focus on a single act, to focus all our attention and to order, for a
moment, all the chaos that sometimes inhabits us.
